In his boyhood, Hazrat Abdul Quadir Zilani (R.) was going to Baghdad for education. On the eve of his departure from home, his mother said to him, "My son, never tell a lie and don't get frightened in danger".
Baghdad was far away from his home. He began his journey in the company of a band of merchants. The way was infested with robbers and after five days they were caught by a gang of robbers. He remembered his mother's words and did not lose heart. The robbers were taking the belongings of the merchants one by one. When Abdul Quadir Zilani (R) stood before the chief of the gang, he asked him." What do you have with you?" Abdul Quadir Zilani (R) replied, "My mother gave me some coins. I have all those with me The chief of the gang could not expect such a plain and bold reply. One of the robbers was going to take away the coins from Abdul Quadir Zilani (R). The chief of the gang cried out, "Stop. Don't take away the coins from the boy. Let him go." Abdul Quadir Zilani then said, "I'll not go away leaving the merchants with whom I had been going to Baghdad." The chief of the gang ordered the robbers to set all the merchants free.
